Festival ”As Young As Vilnius” 2023

Vilnius celebrates its 700th anniversary all year round, not only in winter but also in summer. On 25 July, when Vilnius celebrates the feast of its patron St. Christopher, a spectacular party in Vingis Park – the free music festival As Young As Vilnius – awaited all those who gathered. However, Vilnius is too young to celebrate for just one day, so preparations were made well in advance, with parties, concerts and performances all over the city starting on 21 July. DJs and popular musicians set the mood at various venues around the city. Vilnius cuisine and street food enticed with aromas, while exhibitions, performances and other cultural activities fed the soul. The city had so many surprises in store that there was something for everyone to celebrate the 700th anniversary of Vilnius. 

Moments of As Young As Vilnius Festival 2023

The festival was opened by hosts Ignas Krupavičius and Gabrielė Martirosian.

Concert of the Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theatre symphony orchestra was held. The concert was performed by opera singers: Edgaras Montvidas, Aušrinė Stundytė, Ieva Prudnikovaitė and Kostas Smoriginas. Conductor – Maestro Ričardas Šumila.

Lithuanian best-known performers joined together in duets of different genres to perform the most popular and legendary pieces: Monika Liu with Benas Aleksandravičius (ba.), Jessica Shy with Igoris Kofas (Lemon Joy), Vaidas Baumila with Aleksandras Ivanauskas-Fara, Gabrielius Vagelis with Monika Linkytė, Mantas Jankavičius with Evgenya Redko, Algirdas Kaušpėdas with Kamanių Šilelis and others.

The festival As Young As Vilnius also featured a performance by the British electronic music band Clean Bandit! Many fans get up and go to bed with their hits like “Rather Be”, “Rockabye”, “Symphony”, “Solo”, “Tick Tock”, etc. The fusion of classical and electronic music, the use of compositions by composers such as Mozart and Beethoven in dance hits and the presence of guest singers such as Demi Lovato, Jess Glynne, Zara Larsson and Ellie Goulding have made the band world-famous.

One of the most sought-after bands of European music festivals – British Bastille – played at the free “As Young As Vilnius” festival! The London quartet’s hits “Pompeii”, “Good Grief”, “Of The Night”, “Things We Lost in the Fire” and other songs have conquered the hearts of fans around the world. The energetic, instantly enthusiastic musicians and the girls’ favourite, vocalist Dan Smith, also captivate the audience with their creative lyrics with hints of mythology and cult films.

“Vilnius JJAZZ Ensemble” also performed at the festival among the main concerts. Vilnius JJAZZ Ensemble is a jazz orchestra led by a Lithuanian composer Jievaras Jasinskis. The ensemble released their debut album “American Stories” in 2022, with an LP release in February 2023. Original compositions were written by Jievaras Jasinskis and Liutauras Janušaitis. In 2022, Vilnius JJAZZ Ensemble became director’s D. Ulvydas movie-concert performers and musicians in “Vilniaus Pokeris” movie based on R. Gavelis book. The ensemble became the flag-bearers of Vilnius’ 700th birthday and together with Vilnius City Municipality gave the city of Vilnius an unforgettable live music performance.

Various activities for children and adults, refreshment areas and educational sessions were available throughout the territory.
